Devvyn was dreaming.
He stood in a vast cornfield beneath a cloudless summer sky, the stalks rising around him in waves of gold as the wind moved through them. Sunlight warmed his face, and somewhere beneath the familiar scent of dry earth and green leaves was the faint sweetness of something he couldn't name.
For once, there was no fear, no remnants and no strange men appearing from nowhere to speak of chaos.
Devvyn laughed as he ran between the rows, his fingers trailing over the corn leaves. The sound came easily, without the weight that seemed to follow him everywhere lately.
