The heavy canvas satchel bit into Maelis’s shoulder as she kicked the workshop door open with the heel of her boot.
The journey to the outer market had taken longer than she planned, but she hadn't risked sending Devvyn. Leaving him to shop for workshop parts after the whistle mess was asking for trouble. If she wanted clean copper, decent tools, and metal that wouldn't snap under heat, she had to pick them out herself.
She dropped the bag onto the workbench with a heavy clatter, blowing a loose strand of hair out of her eyes.
“Devvyn?” she called out, unbuttoning her coat. “Clear the lower shelf. I need space before I start sorting this out.”
