Without warning, thunder cracked overhead. Devyyn gasped, sucking in a lungful of air as freezing rain lashed across his face.
He blinked hard and staggered as his boots sank into mud. When he looked down, the wound along his ribs was gone. His armour was surprisingly clean and his sword hung untouched in its scabbard at his hip.
When he looked up again, he wasn't alone. Standing in front of him in the pouring rain were the same five soldiers from before. There was the kid with the spear, the sturdy man with with a broken iron shield, the woman with the twin blades, the rear guard and the msn with the bandaged arm.
All five were breathing hard and had their eyes locked onto him.
